About

What we do

At MoreThanJustPictures, we don’t want to capture an awkwardly posed moment from a stressful evening — an evening that probably began weeks earlier with scheduling around karate and music lessons and work obligations. The preparation continued with a shopping trip for color coordinated outfits and led to stern conversations with children reminding them to be on their best behavior. By the time the family can actually get in front of the camera, everyone’s stress is maxed out just in time to leave for a studio that you may or may not be familiar with.

But here at MTJP, we are interested in capturing exactly who you are and creating a lasting record, not merely of a single afternoon, but rather of your personality, your family and your milestones. This is why we come you!

When you plan your portrait session with MTJP, think of a relaxed, natural setting that feels comfortable for you, perhaps even a place with memories, like a park, your home, an arboretum, a church, etc. If you need suggestions, we have lots of ideas and suggestions below.

While outdoor sessions are quite popular, we can also accommodate indoor locations. We have a portable studio that can be requested for sessions. This allows us to capture studio-quality images in the comfort of your home environment. Many clients choose to have their sessions right in their own homes, in their natural environment. Whether you want us to capture your daily life or dress everyone up a bit and have some posed images, MTJP feels blessed to be a part of documenting your family!

This is what makes us different and sets us apart. This is why we call ourselves “more than just pictures.” Because a picture shouldn’t just be a picture, and 1,000 words is just the beginning.

An ideal outdoor session location will provide most (if not all of the following): covered area, large amount of shade, open space/nature setting or interesting backdrop, and an area for children to play if younger children are included in the session.

We are based out of East Madison and have several recommended session locations close by, although we are always eager to find new locations you could suggest!
